Job Description

A Lead BI Insights Developer is responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting OpenTempo’s Insights Business Intelligence platform. The BI Developer should have significant experience with business analysis and analytics and be able to help us solve our customers’ biggest data challenges. Essential to this role is the ability to understand our customers’ business drivers and use data to demonstrate what happened, why it happened, to predict what might happen, and to provide guidance on what could be done to positively impact potential outcomes. Data pattern analysis and predictive modeling will be important to continue evolve our product’s vision.

Lead BI Insights Developer responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining business intelligence product and architecture
  • Presenting information through reports and visualization
  • Planning and managing OpenTempo’s BI technology strategy

A Lead BI Insights Developer should be an excellent communicator, have business acumen and problem-solving aptitude. He or she is an active collaborator and willingly explores suggestions and ideas from other members of the team. The BI Insights developer provides technical leadership to guide the team in decisions that improve product health, maintainability, and quality over the long term.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translate business needs to technical specifications
  • Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools)
  • Maintain and support data analytics platforms (e.g. GoodData)
  • Create tools to store data (e.g. OLAP cubes)
  • Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting
  • Evaluate and improve existing BI systems
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate systems
  • Develop and execute database queries and conduct analyses
  • Create visualizations and reports for requested projects
  • Develop and update technical documentation


Education and experience requirements:

  • Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist
  • Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining
  • In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
  • Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g. GoodData, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI)
  • Experience with writing SQL queries
  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative
  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field
